Despite getting the lead through an own goal by Charles Kabore before half time, Sevilla eventually lose 2-1.Chelsea had ample chances throughout the match to win it sooner but it was only in the 70th minute that Morata managed to find the back of the net. Morata, who had not scored since August finally got his name on the scoresheet. It was a lovely scoop from Fabregas towards Willian that the Brazilian just flicked with his head in the path of Morata and the Spaniard gave a delightful finish to it.Morata burried his face in Willian’s shoulder with the Brazilian holding the emotional goalscorer.Arsenal, on the other hand, had their eighteen-year-old Emile Smith Rowe, a product of the Arsenal’s academy, on target as a mainly second-string Gunners maintained their winning start in the competition.Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Matteo Guendouzi also scored for Unai Emery’s side who sit atop Group E with six points.Milan trailed to a Miguel Angel Guerrero goal at the San Siro but a late flurry of goals ensured victory for Gennaro Gattuso’s side.advertisementPatrick Cutrone scored twice for the Italians and Argentine Gonzalo Higuain was also on target as Group F side Milan also made it two wins out of two.Sevilla, winners of the competition three times between 2013 and 2016, went down with Georgian midfielder Tornike Okriashvili grabbing the winner two minutes from the end.RB Salzburg came back from a goal down to beat Scotland’s Celtic 3-1 in Austria.Odsonne Edouard’s cool finish put Celtic in front in the second minute but Munas Dabbur and Takumi Minamino scored after the break. Pique rescues a point for Barca

first_imgEspanyol 1 Barcelona 1: Pique plays pantomime villain Harry West Last updated 1 year ago 01:11 2/5/18 Pique - cropped Twitter (@LaLiga) Barcelona narrowly avoided a first LaLiga defeat of 2017-18 as Gerard Pique popped up to secure a 1-1 draw at Espanyol. Gerard Pique was a deeply unpopular goalscorer at Espanyol as Barcelona battled back to preserve their unbeaten LaLiga record with a 1-1 draw on Sunday. This clash was the rivals’ third meeting in two and a half weeks after Barca prevailed 2-1 over two legs of a closely contested Copa del Rey quarter-final last month.Pique prompted an Espanyol complaint to the Spanish Football Federation after the second leg of that tie following comments he made disputing the clubs’ rivalry over the location of Espanyol’s stadium. Article continues below Editors’ Picks Lyon treble & England heartbreak: The full story behind Lucy Bronze’s dramatic 2019 Liverpool v Man City is now the league’s biggest rivalry and the bitterness is growing Megan Rapinoe: Born & brilliant in the U.S.A. A Liverpool legend in the making: Behind Virgil van Dijk’s remarkable rise to world’s best player It looked as though the home fans would have the last laugh at a sodden RCDE Stadium when Gerard Moreno got in ahead of Pique to head home Sergio Garcia’s excellent cross midway through the second period.Seemingly with one eye on Thursday’s Copa semi-final second leg against Valencia, Ernesto Valverde opted to start Lionel Messi on the bench and the Argentine genius had only been on the field seven minutes when Moreno struck.Barca seemed to be heading for a first LaLiga loss under Valverde as the saturated pitch prevented the leaders implementing their slick passing style but the equaliser arrived via a more conventional route as Pique rose highest to head home Messi’s free-kick eight minutes from time.Pique, whistled throughout the contest, signalled for the home fans to be quiet and he was subsequently involved in an altercation with Moreno in the closing stages as the defender revelled in his role as the pantomime villain. The relentless downpour seemed to slow the early stages as the opening 20 minutes were something of a damp squib before Philippe Coutinho almost lit up an otherwise drab affair.Receiving the ball towards the left of the box, the Brazilian worked space for a 20-yard shot which had Diego Lopez comfortably beaten before it crashed off the crossbar and away to safety.23 – @FCBarcelona have hit the woodwork 23 times already in @LaLiga this season, more than any other top five European leagues team. Im happy at Fiorentina says Federico Chiesa

first_imgFiorentina signing Federico Chiesa says he won’t let his €70m price-tag affect his performance, as he expresses his happiness at the club and vows to “never stop learning.”Chiesa, 20 years old, already has 63 Serie A appearances, with nine goals and 12 assists.“Players generally come in two categories: those who do their best if they are relaxed and those who must always give 100 per cent. I am in the second category,” Chiesa told the Corriere Della Sera newspaper, via Football Italia.“The first rule is to keep your feet on the ground. My father told me the secret is to remain concentrated on what I’m doing, and of course, I listen to him. If I got this far, it’s thanks to my family.”“I am happy with what I’ve done so far, but let’s go easy when calling me a top player. I know I can do far better. I didn’t have an anxious summer, because I had already agreed with the club that I would remain in Florence. It was the best choice for me.“Knowing I am considered to be worth this much doesn’t give me sleepless nights, nor does it change my life. Price-tags in recent years have skyrocketed, so I simply try not to think about it.Cristiano Ronaldo, JuventusSerie A Betting: Match-day 3 Stuart Heath – September 14, 2019 Considering there is a number of perfect starts so early in the Serie A season, as well as a few surprisingly not-so perfect ones….“We’ve got to grow together, Fiorentina and I. Last season we just missed out on Europe, but while we have reinforced the squad, so have our opponents.“I faced Cristiano Ronaldo last summer in Madrid and he does things we can only imagine, he’s like an alien. Cristiano will help Juventus to win, but also Italian football in general to expand and Carlo Ancelotti does the same at Napoli.“As for me, people expect more of me this season and I hope to be ready for this challenge. I know that I must score more goals and provide more assists, but also improve defensively.“(Fiorentina Coach Stefano) Pioli gave me so much advice and the 4-3-3 system should help me give my best.”last_img read more
